Background
Working with clients and partners, the National Research Council Canada provides strategic research, innovation support, scientific and technical services to develop and deploy solutions to meet Canada's current and future industrial and societal needs. Guided by our core values of impact, accountability, leadership, integrity and collaboration, NRC is a dynamic and vibrant organization that, in its ongoing evolution, is seeking an Industrial Technology Advisor (ITA) for its Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP) specialized in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT), specifically in agricultural technology including food growing and processing. |

Your Challenge
The successful candidate will support Canadian small to medium sized enterprises (SME) to grow through innovation. He/she will provide business and technology advisory services to SMEs, provide networking and linkage services to SMEs and will assess their innovation projects for potential IRAP funding.The incumbent will promote the awareness of and facilitate access to programs, expertise and services available from NRC and other government organizations, as well as from universities, colleges and other non-government organizations. In order to better serve IRAP s clients, the incumbent will develop and maintain a network of business and professional contacts in his/her sector of expertise. |

Screening Criteria Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates. | |
Education
Bachelor s degree in engineering or science in a discipline related to the position from a recognized university.Preference will be given to candidates that meet one of the following criteria: degree or diploma in business or commerce; significant supplementary business training in their industry sector. |

Experience
Recent and extensive industrial business experience in the sector as described in the poster above as an entrepreneur or senior manager, in SMEs.Recent and extensive private sector experience in developing and commercializing innovative products or services, with demonstrable outcomes. Recent and extensive industry experience in assessing market opportunities, developing and implementing business growth strategies for the commercialization of new products or processes including at least four of the following areas: competitive business intelligence, business due diligence, sales and marketing, operations management, product management, organizational capacity assessment, or finance including investment. |

Technical Competencies
Solid knowledge of key business, technology and innovation issues in industry sectors relevant to the position.Solid knowledge of SME management, marketing of technology and productivity increase. Solid knowledge of developing, adopting and adapting technologies. Solid knowledge of project management. Basic knowledge of NRC-IRAP's mandate, mission and business model. Advanced knowledge of the innovation needs and challenges of SMEs in Canada, with specific knowledge in the region of Ontario. Proven excellent written and oral communication abilities. |

Salary Range This position is classified as a Research Council Officer (RCO), a group that is unique to the NRC. The RCO group uses a person-based classification system instead of the more common duties-based classification system. Candidates are remunerated based on their expertise, skill, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience. The salary scale for this group is vast, from $49,670 to $140,418 per annum, which permits for employees of all levels from new graduates to world renowned experts to be fairly compensated for their contributions. | |
